Te Whānau Taiao is back! Art inspired by mother nature. My first creative journey started with a series of tees, but now I'm excited to share something new: digital art dedicated to Matariki. Thank you for your support, it means the world to me.

This seasons artwork presents…

Ngā Manu o Matariki Series.

The Inspiration.

Ko te manu kei ia pikitia, he kaitiaki. Ko Matariki ngā whetū e tō mai ana i ngā roimata aroha ki a rātou mā kua whetūrangitia. Ka kite ana te tangata i ēnei mahi toi, ka pupū ake ngā kare ā-roto pēnei i te aroha, te ngākau kōingo, me te hoki mahara.

Ngā Manu o Matariki is a series that binds the person to its nature by thinking about the ones who have passed. The birds in every picture, are protecters. Matariki are the stars that are pulling the tears of love to those who had passed. As the person sees this art, the emotions explode with love, desire and nostalgia.

Smartphone Art.

Smartphone art is the art that is downloaded to your phone and you decide what to do with it next! (These are not recommended to be framed, they’re recommended for phone wallpapers).

Ruru (Phone)
$15.00

Ka whakaatu tēnei pikitia, ko te manu o waho he Ruru, ko te rākau he Pūriri, ko ngā mea e toru he Pepe Pūriri, ā, he Ruru e rere ana ki ngā Pepe Puuriri whakawhiti ana i te tangata. Ko te take he kohu kei tēnei pikitia nā te mea, koinei ngā roimata o Papatuānuku.

The picture shows a outlined Ruru (Morepork) and there’s also a Ruru flying towards Pūriri moths, crossing over a person. The moths are near a Pūriri tree (Vitex lucens). The fog indicates the tears of Papatuānuku. If you look closely at the sky, you can also see Matariki.

Tūī (Phone)
$15.00

The explination of this picture, the Tūī is the outlined bird, the bush in the right is Harakeke (flax) and those are one of the favourite trees of the Tūī. I used the colours of night because, these are the colours of the feather’s of the Tūī. There’s only one person watching two Tūī flying and there’s a cloud a the throat of the Tūī to represent its white tuffs. If you also look at the sky, there’s Matariki.

Pīwaiwaka (Phone)
$15.00

The explanation of this picture, the Pīwaiwaka (Fantail) is the outlined bird, the tree is Poohutukawa because, that’s one of the favourite trees of the Pīwaiwaka. The reason why I used this type of sunset is because, this type of sky connects to Ngaa Rangi Tekau Maa Rua (the twelve heavens). The reason why I added Ngaa Rangi Tekau Maa Rua is because we believe that, the Pīwaiwaka is a messenger from Ngaa Rangi Tekau Maa Rua. If the Pīwaiwaka gets close to you, it’s giving you a warning of what’s going to happen in the future and if you’ve seen the Pīwaiwaka, it has twelve feathers on its tail showing the signs of Ngaa Rangi Tekau Maa Rua. So, the Pīwaiwaka has flown to the girl and if you see, up in the sky there’s Matariki.

Kererū (Phone)
$15.00

“The bird that eats berries its his forest, the birds that eats knowledge its his world.”

The explination of this picture, the Kererū is the putline picture, the tree is Miro (Ferruginous podocarp) and, the Kererū has gone to the tree to feast. The reason why I chose a sunset or sunrise sky was because, this was the best time to spot them and the child spotted one. Also, you can see Matariki shinning in the sky.
